Noopept (Russian: Ноопеl 7;т; GVS-111, N-phenylacetyl-L-prolylglycine ethyl ester) is a nootropic peptide discovered and prescribed originally in Russia. Noopept is often compared to piracetam but is technically not a racetam drug due to it’s lacking the 2-oxo-pyrrolidine backbone shared by all the racetam family of nootropics. Despite this, it’s often linked with the racetams due to it’s similar mechanism of action. Like the other racetams, it acts primarily as a cholinergic to increase the acetylcholine (learning and memory neurotransmitter) in the brain. It is also a mild upmodulator of AMPA excitatory neurotransmitters, not unlike the other racetams.
In some studies it’s been quoted as being a thousand times as potent as piracetam (by volume). Noopept is actually also a prodrug (meaning it metabolizes into the substance in vivo) for the endogenously bio-synthesized peptide chain cycloprolyglycine.
