Epitalon Research
Epitalon, a synthetic peptide, was initially identified in the latter part of the 1980s by Professor Vladimir Khavinson of The Sankt Petersburg University in Russia. It is recognized as a telomerase activator and potential anti-aging drug considered to be the likely active ingredient in an extract from the bovine pineal gland known as epithalamin.
Epitalon is a tetrapeptide and consists of the amino acid sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, having the molecular arrangement of C14H22N4O9. Studies suggest that Epitalon triggers the activity of genes and the production of proteins during neurogenesis, potentially through an epigenetic process. It seems to intensify the multiplication of lymphocytes in the thymus, theoretically enhancing the generation of interferon gamma by T-cells. Additionally, Epitalon has demonstrated it extends the lifespan of cells by overcoming the Hayflick division limit.
